Theme for 2010

January 30, 2010

Hi all!

Wow, it's hard to believe but it's time to start planning the theme for Lakeside 2010.  Last year's theme was: H2O Hope 2 Overcome, Hearts to Overflowing

What should our theme be for this summer?

Don't forget that Midwinter is Feb 19th - 21st in Macedonia! Go to the Institute homepage to find more details.

"Go GREEN" Give Relentlessly Energetically Enthusiastically & Neverending -giving yourself to God AND giving your time to save the Earth (which God created for us!) I also like Brian's "A Recipe for Success" especially since I'd like to suggest the idea of having a new afternoon activity called "In the Kitchen"

Lakeside Institute 2010: Transformed --> (To play on the movie 'Transformers') We could discuss things like being transformed by God's word, God's love, others, etc.

I like the "Go Green" - certainly in step with the focus to care for the planet/our relationship with God. Save the planet for future generations - save your soul for eternity. Re: recipe Focus on old fashioned ways ie: homemade crust vs boxed kind. Point is there are no shortcuts to a deeper relationship with Christ. Take the time-do the work. I Love what Julie said about No shortcuts to a deeper relationship with Christ- and being transformed from Lori and Shannons about in the Kitchen. I also have an idea for an afternoon activity that goes along with digging a little deeper and taking the time. If we could incorporate all those ideas into a theme..... WOW. We could all be frogs and Fully Rely On God....

How about "Coming Home"? It has meaning on a number of levels . . . such as coming home to Lakeside Institute (returning campers) or coming home to church (returning to attending church), coming home into the arms of a loving Father, thoughts of fellowship with friends / family. Scriptural references: Prodigal Son, the church he Father's House, God's He has prepared a room for us in His house, how the early church services were always held in brothers' homes (not in what we think of as church), Songs: God's House,

"I'm a big kid now!" Lets talk about how our faith has developed and grown. We need to discuss as Young Adults how You can impress your home churches. As a scripture i would suggest 1Timothy 4:12 and Psalm 71 1-5. Campers and staff have all grown over the years. Lets celebrate the growth and the future of our faith. Small groups could be things little kids have grown out of onesies, binkies, tricycles etc.

"Becoming Servant Leaders" (we need a more catchy title, obviously, but that's the theme I thinking about. Looking at a Bible character each day: Monday: Barnabas - who encouraged others Tuesday: Mary (sister of Martha & Lazarus) who knew what was most important in life. Wednesday: John (son of Zebedee, brother of James) who knew what being a friend was all about. Thursday: Mary Magdalene - who allowed God to turn her life around. Friday: Jesus - the one who changed the world and is ready to transform our lives!

Be a Witness, Not a Judge. Catching Fish Airplane or Rocket-themed? You could go a lot of different directions with that...or have one aspect for each day... Cleared for Takeoff (equipped by God for what he calls us to do, ready to go serve God/live a life of faith) Blast Off! (taking action, enough power to get in the air) Who's the Pilot? (letting God be in control, giving your life to Christ) Mild Turbulence (Getting through tough things in life with God's help) Safe Landing (Heaven, God will take care of us) Expanding on the idea of MASH (Modern Armies Serving Him) which I think is a great idea... Reporting for Duty (or something like that)...(we are soldiers for Christ, in God's Army, God equipping us for what we need to do, following instuctions, serving God, etc.) *this definitely calls for some sort of mega obstacle course or boot camp-type thing! Leave a message (God's messages to us, responding to God's message, spreading the message, leaving an impact everywhere you go, etc.) Measuring Up (could possibly be a part of the aforementioned cooking theme?)...(We don't measure up to God's holiness, grace measures us up, 1 cross+3 nails=4 given, etc.)

I had an idea for a theme. it kinda came to me randomly lol It should sound familiar from all the cell phone ads. How bout : the most reliable 3G network (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit) We could focus on what God is calling us to do :)
