Devo 2
The past few weeks seem to have had a common theme that has woven
them together and I wanted to share this with you. No doubt most
of us can relate. It is so easy to have "the grass is always
greener on the other side" mentality. At times in my life I
have fallen into that trap that Satan sets up for me. Maybe you have
fallen into it, too, at times. It isn't hard to do. Maybe you see
someone else with material things that you wish you had, or you see
someone with personality traits that you wish you had, or you see
someone who you think has a perfect life and you want it!!!
The Bible teaches that there is danger in coveting (Luke12:15), in
not being content with what we have (Hebrews 13:5), and in comparing
ourselves to others (2 Corinthians 10:12). It sounds hard to live
by when the world goes on around us, and it is so commonplace to
do these things...so accepted a practice. But we are called by Christ
to be in the world and not of it. And with Him living in us, all
things are possible!
The other day, my husband shared something with me that happened
out on our deck between him and our 5 year-old daughter. He was thinking
in his mind of how he was unhappy with some aspects of his job and
how sometimes he just wished he worked somewhere else. Mind you,
he was just thinking this. She turned toward him and calmly said, "Daddy,
be careful what you wish for." It blew us away! Lesson learned.
God can use even a little child to remind us of what is important.
He has a job. I can stay home and raise my children and homeschool
my daughter and we aren't struggling financially. That in itself
is a blessing!
A few days later, I was reading the same child a book called, "Just
Enough and Not Too Much" about a boy who had simple things,
but was happy. Then he got to thinking he wasn't really happy....he
wanted more. When he got more, he realized he was happier when he
had less. There was less clutter and he had time for his friends
and life was just simpler. My daughter, wise beyond her years I think,
looked at me and said, "I wish I had a stuffed animal like that.
But I'm happy with what I have." I think God was smiling down
on her thinking, "She's got the right idea!"

Lord, help us all to be thankful for what You have given to us and
to never doubt that You love us and long to bless us. Sometimes with
material things. Sometimes with friends and family who love us. Sometimes
with a word in the Scripture we read that seems to be put there just
for us. Sometimes just life itself. Thank You most of all for the
blessing of Your precious Son Jesus who You sent to die for our sins
so that we could live with you forever in Heaven someday. Help us
to have a great week and keep us all safe! In Jesus' name~ Amen.
Have a great week, guys!
Love you!
Heather
